Tucson Supplies Teachers
6th annual Tucson Supplies Teachers becomes community wide effort
The 6th Annual Tucson Supplies Teachers supply drive is ready for kick-off on August 3, 2014. Once again, school supplies can be donated at any Walgreens location in Southern Arizona, as well as Wendy's and Cox Communications locations in Tucson. Cash donations can be made at www.TucsonValuesTeachers.org, and all donations received from now through August 17th will be matched – dollar for dollar – through TVT and Walgreens. Over $192,000 in school supplies were raised last year, bringing the overall total of supplies raised since inception to nearly a half million dollars, and we hope to meet or beat that goal in 2014. Help support our teachers, classrooms, and students by participating in Tucson Supplies Teachers.
In an effort towards truly eliminating teacher funded classrooms, Tucson Values Teachers, Walgreens, and Community Finance Corporation have joined with a host of other community and business partners to create a single, community-wide supply drive. This year's partners include Tucson Association of REALTORS, News 4 Tucson’s Kristi’s Kids, Pima Federal Credit Union, Cox Communications, Raytheon, Peter Piper Pizza, Wendy’s, Tucson Young Professionals, and McDonald’s. Local businesses can support Tucson Supplies Teachers by collecting supplies at their place of business, call Tucson Values Teachers for more info.
Over the past 5 years, TVT, together with Walgreens and Community Finance Corporation, has delivered nearly $500,000 to local schools in support of teachers, students, and classrooms.
"TVT's 2013 Teacher Workforce Survey showed us what we've known anecdotally for a long time, that teachers spend over $1,000 each year on classroom supplies. That's a huge expense, particularly for teachers who are paid so little to begin with.” said Katie Rogerson, interim executive director of TVT. “The Tucson Supplies Teachers supply drive is a way for our community to step up in support of teachers. And with the support and backing from our community partners, I have a feeling that this year's event will be a huge success."
